Cavs in Championship 3 out of last 10 years
The Cleveland Cavaliers surprised us all after being down 1-3 and being given a less than 10% chance to pull off the championship. Winning 2 games on the road, the Cavs became NBA champions for the first time in their franchise history. Here's a look at how the rankings have changed. Want to see the breakdown of data? Last 10 years Rankings:
Miami Heat. Perhaps LeBron should lead the all-time rankings, as his Miami Heat team still leads the last 10 year results, despite now moving Cleveland up the list. Miami has 4 championship appearances in the last 10.
Los Angeles Lakers. Yes, it's true, the Lakers rank #3 for the last 10 years. Despite being at the bottom of the standings the last couple of years, the Lakers won twice in the last 10 years, in 2009 and 2010.
Golden State Warriors. Now tied for 2nd with the Lakers for most points in last 10 years. 2 championships in the last 3 years helps. Expectations are high for the Warriors to earn even more Championship points in the coming years.
Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs stay in the #4 spot, as their 2007 loss fell off the books, but they matched that with a championship loss in 2017. 3 appearances in the last 10 years with a victory.
San Antonio Spurs. Their 2007 championship fell off the last 10 years, but they are still here in the top 5. 1 Championships, 1 lost championship and 5 total appearances in the conference finals.
Boston Celtics. 1 NBA Championship (2008), 1 lost championship (2010), 2 Eastern Finals losses (2012, 2017) puts Boston in the top 6 NBA teams of the last 10 years.
Last 20 years Rankings:
Los Angeles Lakers. When you look back at the last 20 (or 30 or 50) years, the Lakers are on the top. With 3 championships in a row (2000-2002) and 7 total championship appearances, they dominate the last 20.
San Antonio Spurs. The consistency continues. Their last 10 and previous 10 stats are almost identical, although throw in an extra championship in those previous 10 for 5 total in 20 years.
Miami Heat. Miami falls a bit when looking at the last 20 years. Most of their damage was done in the LeBron years. They do have a championship in 2006, 11 years ago, which does still keep them in the #3 spot here.
Cleveland Cavaliers. Cleveland moves ahead of Detroit here in 2017 with their loss to the Warriors in the Championship. They are opposite of Detroit on how their points are made up with all their championship points coming in the last 10 years.
Golden State Warriors. The Warriors crack the list for best teams in the past 20 years! Being in the NBA Championship in each of the last 3 years helps.
Detroit Pistons. Remember the early 2000's? The Lakers, Spurs and Pistons used to dominate year to year. Detroit does fall a spot here in 2017 due to no recent success.
